Uniform 1.4 Brings SDF Modeling, Full UV Mapping Control & 3D Printing Workflow Tools

Additionally, Sparseal unveiled a new set of brief tutorials covering the features of its 3D software.

This marks the first update of the year for CozyBlanket creator Sparseal's Uniform, an iPad-based 3D app that covers the entire asset creation process, since its December release. While Uniform 1.4 has been only lightly teased, it delivers many great new features that will be valuable to users and equally important, it also comes with new tutorials, perfect for those looking to get started or recommend the app to others.

A key highlight of Uniform 1.4 is the introduction of SDF modeling through the SolidVolume object, enabling users to create models with smooth Boolean operations and shape blending.

While most 3D software and graphics rely on meshes composed of vertices and polygons, SDFs provide an alternative approach to representing 3D scenes. Using mathematical formulas, SDFs describe a shape's volume with virtually infinite resolution, offering smooth transitions and perfectly sharp edges. If you're familiar with 2D design software, you can think of SDFs as the 3D equivalent of vector graphics, giving you an intuitive understanding of their benefits and limitations.

Uniform now offers full control over asset creation with new UV editing and mapping tools, marking UV seams, unwrapping, and packing islands, ensuring pixel snapping for accuracy. It also supports the sharing of texture, mesh, and curve data across objects and enhances the 3D printing capabilities with world scale, viewport overlays, measurement tools, and exporters for both STL and 3MF formats.

Additionally, a new customizable input system has been introduced, with support for Apple Pencil Pro gestures. The UI has also been further improved, offering a smoother experience with fewer artifacts, faster updates, and support for both dark and light themes. Strokes with small radius and multiple symmetry passes are now significantly faster in Uniform 1.4. The update also includes iCloud support, along with numerous other features that enhance the user experience.
