The Department of Interactive Media is searching for a creative and forward-thinking design educator with a broad range of skills in 3D modeling, rigging, and sculpting. The ideal candidate will have a strong dedication to advancing the field of 3D design and animation, with a particular emphasis on games and simulations. This position primarily involves teaching responsibilities, along with the chance to contribute to the development of courses within the dynamic Immersive Media program curriculum.
As an instructor, your key responsibilities include teaching courses covering various areas of 3D design, such as 3D Character Design, 3D Level Design, and 3D Modeling and Animation. Additionally, you'll need to instruct courses on Intro to Game Studies, Introduction to Immersive Media, and Immersive Media Practicum. Alongside teaching, you'll also provide guidance and support to students through advising and actively participate in school committees.
Priority will be given to applicants who are interested and capable of teaching Introduction to Game Design, Immersive Narratives, Intro to Creative Coding, and 2D Character Design, in addition to the primary teaching responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required
- Professional experience or experience in teaching 3D modeling and animation.
- Demonstrated potential for collaborative interdisciplinary design work and/or research practices.
- Practical experience outside academia, preferably in a game development studio, design consultancy, or a company focused on immersive projects.
- Candidates with a blend of academic and practical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- A master's or doctorate degree is preferred; exceptions may be made with substantial industry experience.
- Proficiency in any of the following: Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, Adobe Substance 3D Designer, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, etc..
Preferred skills
- Some coding knowledge (e.g., Unity/C#, Python, C++, TouchDesigner) is highly advantageous.
- The ability to instruct Unity for immersive development is a plus.
- Experience in creating visuals for immersive performances and interactive installations.
- Experience with character rigging using motion capture systems
