Soft8Soft has officially released Verge3D 3.7, which now features Global Illumination, Geometry Batching, and other useful tools.
The new Global Illumination feature is going to make the scenes a lot more realistic, for it allows you to play with light probes more and experiment with things like indirect lighting. You can switch between the day and night modes, turn the lamps on and off, and more.
Clipping Planes is another useful tool available in the new update. It can cut your model so you can see what it looks like on the inside. Clipping Planes can be added in Blender through the Add > Verge3D > Clipping Plane menu. They can be added and applied to various objects loaded at run time.
One of the biggest news is that now you can use your Verge3D scenes to create apps for Android- and iOS-based devices. There is now a converter tool that produces mobile application templates based on Cordova to help mobile developers create and publish their projects on Google Play and App Store easily.
One more useful feature is Geometry Batching that allows you to merge the geometry of a certain group of meshes to enhance the rendering performance. This is a puzzle that gathers meshes with similar properties (based on material, shadow settings, etc.), creates a new batch, and applies it to the scene. Objects that the puzzle cannot merge are left untouched. The developers, however, warn that you should not batch objects that you intend to move around, animate, or update in any other way, as after applying Geometry Batching you will not be able to do that.
