Visit An Uncensored Library in Minecraft

Minecraft now has a virtual library featuring censored news articles from around the world.

Users can find, for example, articles by Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and other well-known journalists.

The library is a project of Reporters Without Borders, design collective Blockworks, advertising agency DDB Germany and production company MediaMonks. It gives access to articles banned in five countries: Egypt, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.

"In many countries around the world, there is no free access to information. Websites are blocked, independent newspapers are banned and the press is controlled by the state," said Christian Mihr, managing director of Reporters Without Borders Germany. "Young people grow up without being able to form their own opinions. By using Minecraft, the world's most popular computer game, as a medium, we give them access to independent information."

The project was built as a giant neo-classical complex with its own server. Minecraft players can visit it freely by writing "visit.uncensoredlibrary.com" in the server browser.

It features a number of wings focused on different countries. Articles are available in Minecraft’s craftable books which is not perfect but you can still check out some of the banned texts.
