Ars Technica interviewed Cyan Worlds co-founder Rand Miller to get a behind the scenes look at the development of one of the best selling PC games of all time, Myst. It turned out that trying to run the game on the CD-ROM format was quite challenging.
"I had a really powerful Mac, with a lot of memory and a lot of hard drive space, and we were still working in mud," said Rand about the game's performance early on. He talked about the way they compressed the image and audio data as much as they could for the game to run on 1x CD-ROM drives.
