According to a recent tweet from the industry's known insider j0nathan, who usually sheds light on Ubisoft's games, the Watch Dogs series is "dead and buried."
"Watch Dogs is dead and buried. Legion's failure destroyed the projects on the license (including a fairly original Battle Royale)," the insider wrote on Twitter.
Although Watch Dogs: Legion received not-so-bad reviews from critics, it did not resonate with fans of the series following the success of the original game and its sequel.
Adding to the mentioned above, Ubisoft canceled a planned battle royale project set in Tokyo in 2023, which was being developed alongside Ghost Recon: Frontline and The Division: Heartland. The game's map was intended to be comparable in size to Camden in Watch Dogs: Legion. However, it looks like we won't see it coming.
