World of Warcraft & Overwatch Designer Scott Mercer Leaves Blizzard
The designer decided to focus on physical and mental health.
Scott Mercer has announced his departure from Blizzard in a tweet. The developer stated that he wants to focus on his health, both physical and mental. Mercer also thanked his colleagues for their work over the past 26 years.
"I've retired after 26 years as a game designer at Blizzard. Had a great run working on so many cool games with so many great people over that time, wrote Mercer. "Now I'm moving on to the new phase of my life where I devote my time and energy to improving my health, both physical and mental."
Mercer initially joined Blizzard back in 1998 to work on the original StarCraft as a QA employee. He went on to work as a game designer on Warcraft III and World of Warcraft.
Among other things, Mercer contributed to the development of both Overwatch parts and Warcraft III: Reforged. Little is known whether the designer plans to return to working in the industry. You can follow Mercer on Twitter.
