Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Can Now Offer a Free Trial to Five Friends

A new referral program has been launched by Xbox Game Pass, allowing Ultimate or PC subscribers to offer a two-week trial of PC Game Pass to up to five friends.

The Xbox Game Pass has introduced a new friend referral program, enabling Ultimate or PC subscribers to offer up to five friends a two-week trial of PC Game Pass.

Users can now send a referral invitation to their friends by clicking the "Give PC Game Pass" button on the Game Pass Home screen, provided they have not previously used the service.

To clarify, the referral offer applies solely to the PC segment of Game Pass. Nonetheless, a two-week free gaming period should not be underestimated, as this subscription provides access to new first-party Xbox games like Redfall, as well as access to EA Play and Riot Games libraries.

If you're wondering why the referral program is limited to PC Game Pass, Microsoft Gaming chief Phil Spencer's statement from last fall likely provides the answer.

The head of Xbox mentioned that Game Pass was experiencing remarkable growth on PC, while uptake on Xbox consoles was slowing due to saturation. "At some point, you've reached everybody on console that wants to subscribe," Spencer explained. Therefore, it seems that Microsoft is hoping to take advantage of this trend.

Earlier, Microsoft discontinued its generous $1 Game Pass trial promotion for good and this new referral program apparently serves as a replacement to it. The timing of its rollout on May 2 is also logical, coinciding with the release of Bethesda's co-op vampire shooter Redfall, which became available on day one for both Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC.
