Secret Level writers Tim Miller and Dave Wilson were not able to sell the idea to Microsoft.
Secret Level's first season explored several well-known game titles, 14 games to be exact, but didn't introduce some of the most iconic heroes, which left fans wondering what went wrong. It turns out the team pitched a Halo x Doom crossover Secret Level, but Xbox decided to turn it down.
In an interview with Collider, Secret Level writers Tim Miller and Dave Wilson remembered someone asking why Spelunky got an episode when Halo did not. They revealed they had big plans for Halo in Secret Level, but eventually, they couldn't sell the idea to Xbox.
Halo Infinite
Wilson shared he and Miller are good friends with Doom studio ID Software's creative director, so at some point the writers thought about putting Doomguy and Master Chief in the same episode. It kind of makes sense, especially because both characters are currently owned by Xbox.
"We wanted to make a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and I spent a whole weekend crafting this impassioned letter of my childhood. And it's exactly what Tim said; they were like, 'Nah'," shared Dave Wilson.
DOOM Eternal
You have to agree that it's odd to decline such an idea, but considering the second season is already in the works, we hope Xbox can change its decision and let the creators unite Doomguy and Master Chief in the next edition of the show.
