Sales of Xbox Series X|S consoles have reportedly more than doubled Xbox One’s lifetime sales in Japan.
According to the Japanese outlet Famitsu (via VCG), Microsoft has managed to ship 260,504 units of the Xbox Series consoles since the release, while Xbox One lifetime sales reach around 114,831 units. Meanwhile, Xbox 360 remains the leader in Xbox sales in the country – it has shipped 1.6 million units in its lifetime.
Over the past month, Xbox Series X|S has even managed to outsell PlayStation 5 on two separate occasions. In the week ending June 19, the Xbox new-gen consoles sold nearly 6,700 units, while the PlayStation 5 sold more than twice less – about 3,000 units.
Nevertheless, PS5 remains the best seller in the Japanese market. In the week ended July 3, Xbox Series X sold 9,756 units, and Xbox Series S – 2,774 units, while PS5 sold 20,028 standard consoles and 4,333 digital versions.
The Xbox Series X|S consoles managed to sell 100,000 units in October 2021, less than a year after its launch. In comparison, Xbox One reached the same amount of sales in Japan only four years after its global release.
Although the new figures definitely represent Microsoft's improvement in sales in the Japanese market, the company's consoles are still far behind its competitors. PS5 has managed to 1,727,545 units since its launch in 2020, and Nintendo Switch has shipped over 25 million units since its release in 2017.
