Instead, the team is creating more content and will spend more on marketing to attract players back when the game improves.
Ubisoft
Ubisoft's free-to-play FPS XDefiant hasn’t seemed to be heading toward a promising path since its launch in May. In the past two months, pessimistic news about the game’s doomed future due to lower-than-expected performance and poor player count has appeared every now and then.
Despite developers trying to clarify in an update note that “the game is absolutely not dying” and they have Ubisoft behind their back, it doesn’t stop the pessimism or rumors, with one saying the game will probably see an end after Season 4. Seeing the rumors flying all over, Mark Rubin, Executive Producer of XDefiant, has to make a clarification to make the situation “crystal clear” via a Twitter post:
The statement is quite a consolation for some fans, who appreciate the communication delivered at this moment and comment to show their love for the team. It’s great for them to hear the developers are cooking something for the upcoming seasons, and they can expect the game to perform better when the technical issues are fixed and bring better gameplay experiences. However, some different voices can be heard from those who promise to return to the game until when the netcodes are fixed.
As to the developer, earlier this month, Ubisoft confirmed the rumor that Tencent, a Chinese tech and media giant, is considering purchasing it and taking the company private to save it from going bankrupt.
