Lei Jun says the debut of HyperOS is a "historic moment" for the company. According to him, the development of the OS has been underway since at least 2017. The OS is intended to serve as the foundation for all Xiaomi ecosystem products, allowing them to "communicate" with each other.
HyperOS will replace the MIUI interface, which Xiaomi has been developing since 2010. Lei Jun wrote, "Thirteen years ago, on August 16, 2010, Xiaomi’s first product MIUI was officially born. In 13 years, it has grown from a few engineers to a software team of 4,000 to 5,000 people; from the initial "100 dream sponsors" to 1.175 billion cumulative users worldwide; from only 4 common functions in the first version to cross-terminal interconnection," wrote the CEO.
The Xiaomi 14 smartphone series will be presented at the company's annual presentation on October 27, 2023. The device is expected to be launched in 2024.
