Let's start today with some good news, especially for those who've always wanted to play some of THOSE games on Steam without broadcasting it to their entire friends list. After a few months of being in Steam's beta phase, the feature that allows you to keep your guilty pleasures a secret and mark specific games as private has finally been added by Valve in a new official update, which also enhanced the shopping process on Steam.
Setting a game as Private on Steam makes it seem as if you don't own it. It won't appear on your profile's game list or recently played section. It won't change your status to "In Game", display your achievements on the activity feed, or show you as a friend who owns the game in the store. Friends can still gift it to you, and it won't show on your profile showcases, earn Steam Trading Cards, or be available for local network transfer.

You can mark a game as private on Steam in three ways. First, in the Steam Client, you can access the Manage submenu by right-clicking the game or clicking the gear icon on its details page, and setting the game to private under Privacy settings, provided you're online and connected to Steam. Alternatively, you can set a game to private from your Steam Community Profile games list when using a web browser. Lastly, you can opt to mark a game as private on the cart page before finalizing your purchase.
For multiplayer games that use Steam matchmaking, your Steam ID will be visible to fellow players on the same server. Also, if you invite a friend to a private game, they'll be able to see your in-game status until you leave the game or disconnect from Steam.

The update also makes your shopping cart accessible from various devices, so you'll never forget items you intend to purchase later. Also, gifting games has become simpler. Now, you can easily purchase games as gifts for your friends or family directly from the Steam store. The platform now also allows you to schedule a gift delivery for a specific date, making it perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any special occasions.
