3D Artist Builds a Functioning Calculator in Blender
Oluwadamilola Fagbowore took asset-creation one step further using Python and Geo Nodes.
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of art – whether digital art, writing, filmmaking, or anything else – is seeing an idea emerge from the artist's mind and evolve over time, often resulting in something quite different from what was initially envisioned.
Case in point – this amazing prop showcased recently by Character Artist and 3D Generalist Oluwadamilola Fagbowore, who took asset-creation to a whole new level by setting up a fully functional calculator in Blender that looks just like a real-life old-school Casio calculator you've probably used countless times.
According to Oluwadamilola, his project required a character to interact with a calculator rig, so he thought it would be convenient – and probably more fun – to just build a real calculator – and that's exactly what he did, using a combination of Python and Geometry Nodes.
As demonstrated and explained by the author, the setup is still a work in progress and currently only handles the four basic operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division – with some functionalities still needing to be implemented.
