3D Artists Experiment With Techniques for Squishy Character Modeling

Creators Feline Entity and Layla joined in on the fun.

Earlier this week, 3D VTuber Artist known as Createll went viral on Twitter for showcasing an impressive Blender setup that allowed them to create lifelike skin folds on a character model using just three auto-weight bones, which the artist humorously described as "a very very cursed way of weight painting".

Inspired by Createll's awesome setup, 3D Technical Artist and Rig Engineer Feline Entity joined in on the fun, presenting their own take on "The Squish". Powered by Blender, the artist's approach allows one to achieve results similar to Createll's, and is described by the creator as a "natural consequence of the spine bone placement and the topology".

To better demonstrate how it works, Feline also shared a tad unorthodox yet incredibly insightful short tutorial, showcasing how you can make your models squishier in just a few simple steps:

3D Character Modeler Layla was among the ones who tried out Feline's technique, demonstrating how it can be used to make a character model's elbows and knees look smooth and more realistic:
