At least 123 tech companies have reportedly carried out job cuts over the past four months.
Just four months into 2025, the year is already shaping up to outpace the already-devastating for tech industry workers 2024, with the total number of layoffs worldwide recently surpassing the alarming milestone of 50,000 job cuts.
The figure comes from Roger Lee's tracking website Layoffs.fyi, which reports that at least 52,340 tech employees have already lost their jobs in 2025 so far.
According to Lee's findings, at least 123 tech companies have carried out job cuts over the past four months, including both smaller teams and major industry players such as Meta, Unity Technologies, NetEase, Amazon, Microsoft, and Intel. Intel alone accounts for nearly half of this year's total layoffs, reportedly planning to cut 22,000 jobs, roughly 20% of its total workforce.
Assuming the pace of layoffs remains the same in the coming months, the troubling total is on track to surpass the number of tech layoffs seen in 2022 and 2024, though still not as cataclysmic as 2023 – a year when, Layoffs.fyi reveals, 1,193 tech companies laid off a staggering 264,220 employees.
On a related note, the gaming industry has also been hit hard, with over 2,200 workers laid off across various studios so far this year. The most recent wave of cuts came from Electronic Arts, which terminated around 300-400 positions – about 2.5-3% of its 13,700 employees – including 100 jobs at Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Apex Legends and Titanfall, representing 10-20% of Respawn's total staff.
Other studios that have conducted layoffs in 2025 include, but are not limited to, PlaySide, Eidos-Montréal, PLAION, Starbreeze, Intrepid Studios, PlayStation, Striking Distance Studios, Skeleton Key, Crytek, BioWare, Reflector Entertainment, and Don't Nod.
