80 Level Job Digest: November Picks for Game Artists

Ubisoft Toronto, Artificial Core, Cold Symmetry, Wabisabi Games, and The Igloo Company are looking for talent.

Video Game Level Designer at Cold Symmetry

Cold Symmetry is the studio that created Mortal Shell - a successful, award-winning indie title crafted by a small and passionate team. As we grow bigger and aim to produce better games, we want to preserve our culture of autonomy, quality, creativity, and focus. We want to fill our team with people like us who set ambitious goals, are not afraid to take creative risks, and pour their heart and soul into making a game they love, and ultimately, would love to play.

We are a distributed studio and all of our positions are fully remote. We are considering candidates from anywhere in the world as long as you're really good at what you do. What matters to us is that you're competent, resourceful, take extreme ownership in your specialized area, and have a burning desire to get things done.

We’re hiring talented individuals now to work on our ambitious new IP. You’ll be joining a project in production with well-scoped goals and milestones. We’re a small team of industry veterans striving to make something incredible. Come join us.

Please include work samples with your application, applications submitted without work examples will not be considered.

Your XP and Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience working on games
  • Ability to work autonomously, without micromanagement but still deliver on goals
  • Previous experience taking a game from concept through to launch and being able to contribute to the core of the early design loop
  • Solid understanding of level design principles, such as level flow, pacing, macrostructure, engagement, and environmental storytelling to build spaces that support combat, traversal, and narrative
  • Solid understanding of the interplay between systems and 3D spaces; ability to take a system or enemy class and build levels that highlight it in novel and creative ways
  • Ability to understand and craft a player’s emotional journey through a level
  • Able to analyze and thoughtfully critique 3D spaces
  • Understanding of Unreal Engine’s level editor and level streaming/world partition systems, or related experience
  • Experience with Unreal Engine Blueprints or alternative scripting languages to script level progression and event choreography
  • Passion for and understanding of Character Action titles
  • Self-motivated and able work independently as part of a fully distributed and, at times, a-sync team to meet deadlines and milestone requirements

3D Character Animator in Unreal Engine at Wabisabi Games

We are looking for a 3D character animator with a focus on UE4 that can help us take the animations of our main character to the next level.

Our game is a 3D platformer based on graffiti painting in a cyberpunk environment (think of EdgeRunners meets Jet Set Radio).

The game is still unannounced (will be announced EOY 2023) and it is projected to be released in 2024 on PC and consoles.

Being a 3D platformer, we are looking for an animator who can create amazing animations, all while considering all the constraints and tightness a 3D platformer player package needs (such as having very few frames to animate mechanics or all the blendings that need to be considered to connect the entire player package).

The main character is a woman with stylized proportions (think of LOL Arcane) with big hands, feet, and head to help the readability of the silhouettes.

DevOps (Web Based Gaming) at The Igloo Company

The Igloo Company is a Web3 native parent company of Pudgy Penguins. Pudgy Penguins is an IP brand that produces games, products, and entertainment. With over 10 billion social impressions across all platforms, Pudgy Penguins is looking to expand PudgyWorld into an immersive web-based experience.

We are looking for an experienced DevOps/Backend Game Developer with a strong passion for gaming and web development. The ideal candidate will be a master at creating the backbone of our web-based gaming experiences and will be instrumental in ensuring our games run smoothly, and efficiently, and are highly scalable.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in game development, specifically for web-based platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Nest.js frameworks.
  • Certified in AWS or Similar, with a demonstrated ability to handle DevOps tasks efficiently.
  • Proficient in working with PostgreSQL databases.
  • Deep understanding and experience with Redis for caching and session management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

World Designer at Artificial Core

Artificial Core is a developer and publisher of Corepunk.

Corepunk is one of the most anticipated MMO RPGs right now. Our motto is "Good enough is not enough."

Headquartered in Amsterdam with locations in Kyiv and Athens, we're collaborating with studios and talent all over the world.

We’re looking for a highly skilled and self-driven Senior World  Designer willing to create rich and immersive environments for millions of players.

Developing MMO games is very challenging. In our view it is as much rewarding. We want to find someone who shares our passion for challenge and excellence to enjoy this path together.

Requirements:

  • A portfolio demonstrating several environments you created
  • Prior experience working as a Level Designer, Level Decorator
  • Experience working with game editors and game design tools (Unity / Unreal / Cryengine)
  • Ability to quickly prototype and blockout levels
  • Iterating on LD from first blockout to its final stage
  • Close cooperation with both gameplay and environment teams
  • Creative yet analytical mind and thinking out of the box skills
  • Organized, responsible, friendly person
  • Never-ending thirst for knowledge

VFX Artist [FAR CRY Project] at Ubisoft Toronto

Independently deliver a wide range of high-quality visual effects for the project with respect to technical constraints and artistic direction.

What you bring:

  • Experience in-game visual effects or other relevant experience;
  • Experience working within a photo-realistic environment;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good working knowledge of relevant 3D software with particular emphasis on fluid simulation and rigid body dynamics tools (e.g. Embergen, Rayfire, Blender, Houdini, etc.);
  • Exposure to industry game engines (e.g. Unreal) and production pipelines;

  • Familiarity with data management software (such as Perforce);
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team setting;
  • Work effectively in high-pressure and deadline-driven situations;
  • Understanding workload management software/principles (Jira) is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of the video games industry and awareness of typical video game development processes.
