A Closer Look at the Character from Krafton's New Fantasy Project

The project is based on the Korean fantasy novel The Bird That Drinks Tears.

Artist Hyunseok Jin has shown the details of the character from Krafton's new unannounced project based on the Korean fantasy novel The Bird That Drinks Tears by Yeongdo Lee. The model that appeared in The Nhaga Eater concept trailer was created in ZBrush, Ornatrix, Marmoset Toolbag, and Substance 3D Painter.

The trailer was inspired by the concept art of Design Director Iain McCaig (Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Avengers) and created by Team Windless using Unreal Engine 5. The team has spent over two years on building character and worldview on the artwork.

"Unannounced Project’s prime focus is to expand the epic scale of "The Bird That Drinks Tears" into the gaming world. The team envisions to bring together the impact of Korea’s renowned fantasy novel to game fans worldwide."

Released in a series in four volumes, the story begins when four races – Human, Rekkon, Tokebi, and Nhaga – become entangled in a life-changing event. The books follow the Nhaga Slayer Kagan Draca in the world full of creatures of East Asian folklore.

The fantasy adventure game seems very different from what the PUBG creators have made before, Krafton strives to achieve what The Witcher did with its games.

“Interestingly, the The Witcher video game series was based on the original novels, but ironically the original novel became better known to the world thanks to the game. And since then, the IP has been produced as a series and has grown into a global IP loved by many. In this respect, The Witcher is a good role model for us,” said Krafton art director Kwang Jae Son.
