Indie developer Second Face Software has officially launched Portal: Revolution, a brand-new fan-made mod for Valve's legendary Portal 2 that imagines the events that unfolded between the original Portal game and its sequel after GLaDOS's defeat.

Having been in development for more than eight years, the mod offers 40 brain-scratching puzzles that make use of both novel test elements, such as a new laser cube, and Portal 2's existing mechanics, which are presented in a new light not seen in the original game. The experience is powered by a customized version of the Portal 2: Community Edition's engine, allowing the team to implement new mechanics and enhancements, delivering an experience that surpasses the capabilities of Portal 2.

"Portal: Revolutions puzzle difficulty starts where Portal 2 stops, but fear not. All new mechanics and advanced portal tricks are taught to you," the developer noted on the mod's difficulty. "We have ensured through vigorous playtesting that every player can solve the puzzles. Although very few chambers require portals to be fired mid-air, no puzzles require advanced tricky movement. Depending on your experience with Portal 2 mechanics, you can expect about 5 to 7 hours of playtime."
