A Free Pack of Example Files Behind Ian Smith's Houdini HIVE Presentation

The pack contains three files broken down by Ian during GDC 2023.

In case you missed it, during the recent Houdini HIVE event, held alongside this year's Game Developers Conference, CG Supervisor Ian Smith shared "Accelerating Workflow: Rapid Iteration with Houdini, ZBrush, and Substance", a detailed presentation that explained how these programs can be used together to set up an efficient workflow for creating environment art.

Following the presentation, the author also shared a neat pack containing three Houdini-made example files featured in the breakdown, as well as the supporting files, such as GoZ, FBX, and Displacement Map. According to the creator, the files were made with Houdini 19.5.303 and can be used for educational purposes only.

The pack includes:

  • Example 01: ZBrush to Unreal Engine – Using Houdini to process WIP sculpts quickly and review them in Unreal.
  • Example 02: ZBrush to Painter – Using Houdini to generate the low poly UV'd model for quickly creating test bakes in Substance 3D Painter.
  • Example 03: ZBrush & Substance 3D Designer – Using Houdini to displace geometry using displacement maps to create a larger cliff asset.
