A Fully-Procedural Clicker From HBO's The Last of Us

The creature was made by Raouf Bejaoui using Substance 3D Designer.

Senior Technical Director at Naughty Dog Raouf Bejaoui has unveiled an extremely-close 3D recreation of The Last of Us' clicker as depicted in HBO's TV adaptation of the studio's iconic game.

Inspired by the works of Inigo Quilez, Jonathan Benainous, and Ryo Bo, Raouf's version of the fungus-covered infected, which took five months to complete from start to finish, is fully-procedural and was made entirely in Substance 3D Designer using only procedural noises and shapes. According to the artist, the project consists of "37 graphs, 150 outputs across all graphs, and 27 variants of ellipsoids, spheres, cubes, pyramids, rounded and capped cylinders SDFs with various bending states to build up the whole composition."

What's more, the author has also released a comprehensive overview of the entire working process behind the clicker, explaining the steps that were taken to achieve the final result, revealing the techniques that were used, and sharing tons of WiP shots and materials that shed some light at Raouf's pipeline. You can check out the full breakdown by visiting the creator's ArtStation page.
