A New Half-Life Experience Has Arrived, But It Doesn't Have a "3" in Its Name
Meet Half-Life: Element 64, a newly-announced mod that reimagines the gameplay of the original 1998 game.
Throughout much of November, the entire gaming community rode an emotional rollercoaster thanks to the will-they-won't-they rumors about Valve potentially shaking the industry with a Half-Life 3 announcement.
Shockingly, after thousands of pleas and memes, a new Half-Life experience has indeed arrived – and although it doesn't come from Valve, nor does it have a "3" in its name, it's still well worth exploring if you're a fan of the series.
Meet Half-Life: Element 64, a fan-made mod by the Dark Vector team that reimagines the original 1998 game, giving it the feel of classic '90s first-person shooters like Quake and Doom, while still putting you in the shoes of Gordon Freeman as you clear the halls of the Black Mesa Research Facility.
Set across four chapters – Quantum Entanglement, Out of Service, Further Transmission, and Temporal Matter – Element 64 has you battling zombified personnel, military contractors, and alien invaders with an arsenal familiar to every Half-Life fan. Each chapter offers unique themes, enemies, and bosses, all tied together by an old-school atmosphere and gameplay.
