It appears Nintendo's next console will have its own upscaling tech.
2025 starts with another hint at Nintendo's next console. A patent for image upscaling technology has surfaced online and the community thinks it might have something to do with the upcoming Switch 2.
The patent for Nintendo's AI upscaling was filed in July 2023 but only recently published online. It appears that the company is working on its own version of DLSS technology for its next console. The patent specifically mentions the ability to upscale images from 540p to 1080p or from 1080p to 4K.

One of the main advantages of this technology is that developers can release smaller game files. For example, instead of requiring 60GB for native 4K, games could use 20GB but be rendered at 1080p with upscaling. This sounds about right, considering Nintendo’s use of cartridges, which can hold up to 32GB.

In other Nintendo news, the company has recently acquired 100% shares of Monolith Soft, the developer of the Xenoblade Chronicles series. It already had 96% of the studio's shares since 2011. Learn more here.
