A New UDIM Packing Tool for Maya

Here's a new tool that simplifies the packing of UDIM files in Maya.

3D Artist Malcolm Andrieshyn has released a great new tool for Maya that greatly simplifies the process of working with UDIM files and improves your UV workflow. With this tool, you can pack UDIM tiles interactively without breaking texel density, or pack tiles automatically based on world space location. The tool works on Maya 2022, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, LT, and Student, comes with free updates after the initial purchase, and can be run on PC and Mac.

The tool allows you to:

  • Special toggle image dimming on/off that will remember your settings after Maya restart
  • Toggle checker map on/off and increase/decrease checker scale
  • Toggle on/off UV shaded, UV border, show mesh edges in viewport, tile lines, tile labels, % used UV space 0-1, and number of UV shells
  • Move UV shells by one tile left, right, up, down
  • Rotate and flip UVs without creating new shells
  • Orient UV shells to X, Y, Z, edge, UVs, horizontal or vertical
  • Padding and map size inputs
  • Toggle automatic shell rotation on/off for all packing operations
  • Pack all UVs 0-1, or pack selected 0-1
  • Pack selected UV shells 0-1 and apply the resulting texel density to the rest of the model with a single click.
  • Pack selected UV shells to the current selection pivot.
  • And more!
