A Programmer Makes a Photo Mode for Baldur's Gate 3

The mode was even praised by Swen Vincke, the Head of Larian Studios.

An unofficial photo mode for Baldur's Gate 3 has been created by Software Engineer Frans 'Otis_Inf' Bouma, who has previously developed similar tools for other well-known games.

Bouma posted several examples of screenshots taken with the custom tool in Baldur's Gate 3. The photo mode comes with several features allowing users to control the camera, change game speed, control LODs, and more. Among other things, you can make panoramic screenshots, shoot portraits, and capture epic battles.

The tool even caught the attention of Swen Vincke, the Head of Larian Studios. He praised Bouma's work in a tweet.

As for other games Bouma worked on, back in January 2022, Crytek demanded that the programmer remove a mod that added a photo mode to the Crysis game series – the programmer had to get rid of two modifications.

Features:

  • Camera control: (Also in cut scenes and photo mode)
  • Timestop / game pause control
  • Camera paths support ('dolly cam') for defining moving camera trajectories for movies.
  • Game speed control
  • Frameskip
  • HUD toggle
  • Hotsampling
  • Higher LODs
  • More

As there's currently no official photo mode in the game, it's a cool way to take some screenshots. The photo mode for Baldur's Gate 3 is available to Bouma's Patreon subscribers for 5 euros a month. You can find more details here
