A Thousand of Activision Blizzard QA Workers Will Get a Full-Time Employment
Activision Blizzard converts nearly 1,100 QA workers into full-time employees as well as increases their base pay.
Activision Blizzard announced it will be converting all its US-based temporary and contract QA workers into full-time employees, starting July 1. The company will give permanent positions to nearly 1,100 employees as well as increase their hourly wages from $18.5 to at least $20 as of April 17. The workers will also receive benefits and will be able to participate in a bonus plan.
As a result, the number of Activision Publishing employees will grow by approximately 25%. In a separate comment to Bloomberg, the company confirmed that Raven's QA workers, who had previously announced a union, would be paid the same due to legal obligations.
In an internal letter to employees, the company's management mentioned Call of Duty and the continuous growth of the series. Apparently, without the proper number of QA workers and good working conditions, it is impossible to maintain franchise games well-paced. "QA is and continues to be, critical to our development success. We have amazing QA teams in place that work hard to ensure our players have the best possible gaming experiences," wrote COO of Activision Josh Taub.
The issues with the QA department began back in December 2021, when Raven Software's QA department went on strike due to the dismissal of almost a third of the studio's QA workers which later led to the formation of the labor union that Activision Blizzard has yet to recognize.
