A YouTuber Attached a 4K GPU to Steam Deck

Take a look at how Steam Deck handles the power of an external 4K graphics card.

YouTuber ETA PRIME, who specializes in computer hardware and retro emulation, has managed to attach a modern graphics card to Valve's newly released handheld Steam Deck. Despite Valve's claims that the device does not support external GPUs, it does however have an M.2 PCI-E x4 slot, allowing savvy developers to tinker with Steam Deck and plug in a next-gen graphics card, and that is exactly what ETA PRIME did.

The YouTuber has chosen to attach an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU, saying that NVIDIA's 3080 and 3090 are out of the question for now. Surprisingly, the Radeon-boosted Steam Deck worked like a charm and ran such games as Elden Ring, GTA V, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher 3 in 4K with an impressive framerate. According to the artist, they did have to use Windows 11 on the device for this to work. You can check out the full breakdown of the process and the demonstration by watching the video attached above or by visiting ETA PRIME's YouTube page.
