Call of Duty players have long struggled with the huge amount of memory the games take up. Rumor had it that the upcoming Black Ops 6, which is said to be the largest ever game in the franchise, would take up to more than 300 GB on hardware. It immediately gave players a “what” reaction even though it proved not true later.
Finally, Activision has decided to take some action. They just announced a series of improvements, which will roll out gradually before Black Ops 6 is launched on October 25. These include optimized menu navigation and smaller and customizable downloads, aiming to optimize players’ experience.
However, “a large initial update” to prepare for the later improvements is needed, which is coming soon on August 21. It aims at “reorganizing game files and adding new tech to prep the way for the full player interface arriving in October.” This update will away Warzone from the default download when players purchase an annual title. Then, the open beta for Black Ops 6 will start on August 30th, followed by the new user interface update around mid-October.
"After these larger initial updates, future Call of Duty downloads will decrease in size and existing files will take up less space on your device.
As a thanks for your patience, we're gifting all players with in-game consumables, which will be delivered when you first log into Call of Duty after the Season 5 Reloaded update."

All these efforts will hopefully help ensure Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to be a smaller download compared with Modern Warfare III at the launch. You can check out more details regarding these updates from Call of Duty’s X/Twitter account and developer's blog on the official website.
