Adobe Provided a Sneak Peek of Its AI Projects

The company introduced tools that can transform 3D scenes into stylized 2D artwork, turn a single image into a 360° environment, add realistic shadows, and more.

At MAX Sneaks 2022, Adobe showcased some interesting AI projects it is working on. Some – if not all – of them can make it to the company's products.

Project Artistic Scenes

This project uses AI to automatically transform 3D scenes into stylized 2D artwork, which can be used for virtual and augmented reality experiences. You need to upload a series of photos, then drag and drop the reference image, and the tool will apply the style of the image to the 3D scene. Adobe promises that the entire 3D scene can be transferred into any artistic style.

Project Beyond the Seen

This tool, on the other hand, turns a single image into a full 360° panorama, with Adobe's AI reconstructing the missing parts. Depth estimation methods allow users to extend a panoramic image, creating realistic and fully immersive 3D environments.

Project Made in the Shade

As is probably clear from the name, the tool allows adding and editing shadows and their interactions with objects in the photo. Adobe’s AI technology recognizes depth, lighting, and other aspects of a scene, enabling users to move a person or object within a photo while casting realistic shadows.

Other Projects

There are many promising AI solutions presented in the video. Project Clever Composites allows adding yourself (or any other object) into any background with just a few clicks. The AI cuts out the object, adjusts its color and size, and then generates appropriate shadows.

Project Instant Add simplifies the processes of editing videos and adding VFX effects in post-production. It enables anyone to edit video content in the same way they edit images.

Another great innovation is Project Blink, which uses AI to help users find and quickly pull highlights out from video content. To create clips, you need to search for specific words, objects, sounds, or even types of activities, then select the portion of the video transcript you would like to use. Adobe’s AI then automatically transforms that section of the video into a new clip.
