Krakatoa and XMesh are part of AWS Thinkbox tools that simplify rendering, VFX, and simulation workflows.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) open-sourced Thinkbox volumetric particle rendering toolkit Krakatoa and geometry caching solution XMesh for Maya. Both are part of a suite of AWS Thinkbox artist tools that simplify rendering, VFX, and simulation workflows.
Amazon said the decision had been "inspired by customer feedback" and aims to empower customers "by providing them choice, the ability to customize the tools to meet their needs and make more informed long-term decisions."
Earlier this year, AWS announced that its Thinkbox tools Deadline, Draft, Krakatoa, Frost, XMesh, Sequoia, and Stoke are now available for free. However, Krakatoa and XMesh remained closed-source. With the new decision, we expect to see more products open to the public.
