AMD's FSR 3 Upscaling Will Work with Older GPUs

Radeon RX 590 and GeForce GTX 10 Series owners, rejoice!

At gamescom 2023, AMD showed its upcoming FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3 temporal upscaling technology, which can now generate a new frame between existing ones. If you are like me and have an old GPU, this news might sound insignificant to you, used to cool features coming to the latest hardware only.

But this time, there is a reason to be excited as AMD graced the owners of older cards as well. The super resolution upscaling and frame generation capabilities of FSR 3 will be supported by AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series, and above. However, the company still recommends using RX 6000 Series or GeForce RTX 30 Series at least.

And if you're not picky and can live without the new frame generation feature, you can go even lower, to RX 590 and GTX 10 Series.

The best part is that the tech will be compatible with all GPUs, including NVIDIA's and Intel's, and will even work on consoles.

But where will you see FSR 3? Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum are going to be the first to show off the technology in early fall. AMD will also introduce it to a range of games: Cyberpunk 2077, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Frostpunk 2, Squad, Starship Troopers: Extermination, Black Myth: Wukong, Crimson Desert, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

In addition, the company presented Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT GPUs at the conference. For $499 and $449, respectively, the cards are supposed to produce more FPS than NVIDIA's RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti.

FSR 3 is coming out on September 6. Find out more about it here and join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on ThreadsInstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
