An Artist Creates a Stunning Anime-Style POV Shot in Blender

According to the author, the camera shake was inspired by backrooms exploration videos.

3D Artist and Blender enthusiast known online as sumicmusic333 continues the series of majestic 3D anime-style renders inspired by the works of Makoto Shinkai (5 Centimeters per Second, Your Name, Suzume) with one more spectacular work that evokes a desire to disconnect from reality and step into a digital world just to experience it first-hand.

Shared recently over on Reddit, the work in question depicts an immersive point-of-view shot capturing a character walking across a stylized bridge set in a beautiful lush location inspired by a real-life Matsukawa Bridge in Hakuba, Nagano, Japan. The immersivity is further enhanced with the addition of a camera shake, which, according to the author, was inspired primarily by backrooms-style exploration videos. As for the software, sumicmusic333 utilized a combination of Blender Eevee and Adobe After Effects to set up the render, alongside the Optical Flares plug-in for AE to create the lens flares effect.

"The camera shake was just me sort of guessing how a person who is amateur at videography would probably film their surroundings," commented the creator. "I record little videos when I'm walking all the time, so I have tons of reference. From there, I added more micro jitters using Blender's noise in the graph editor, which was really finicky and difficult to get right, and I still think that there might be too much, but I'm okay with it not being perfect."

"Just to clear things up, I've seen a lot of confusion about why I added the camera motion instead of it being smooth," sumicmusic333 continued. "I'm a huge fan of backroom-style exploration videos, and the way you can make something convincingly feel recorded if you know a bit about cameras, so I wanted to try a similar thing with anime scenes. I've done many stable and still shots before, but the camera shake is purely just for the purpose of this one little experimental render, and not an entire project."
