If you are a fan of such games as Asphalt, Forza Horizon, or Need for Speed, here's a cool project that demonstrates how maps for your beloved racing games might be developed in the future. Around a year ago, a developer known as ISavic managed to turn an entire city into a playable 3D environment and then turned the environment into a racing track in Assetto Corsa, a 2014 racing simulator developed by Kunos Simulazioni.
According to the developer, the level was created using Capturing Reality's photogrammetry software RealityCapture, GoPro footage, and drone images. Some of the models, such as bridge fences and lampposts, were done manually in Blender, while everything else was recreated from the captured data by the software. ISavic commented that although the result is not complete and would require a lot of refinement before being game-ready, the level is fully-usable as a demo.
