Players can equip up to two types of weapons like machine guns, fire guns, and laser beams, juggling between them as the game progresses. Adding to the game's appeal are two new female characters fighting alongside the original protagonists Bill Reiser and Rance Bean. An arcade mode enhances the gameplay, allowing up to four players to partake in the action-packed adventure.

Despite the multiple names and variations — including Gryzor, Probotector, Hard Corps — the Contra series has held its ground, thanks to its straightforward, run-and-gun gameplay. Konami has handed the reins over to 2D specialist WayForward for this reboot, aiming to recapture the magic of the original NES version. This game also introduces the thrill of weapon upgrades and special moves.

With its rich history heavily influenced by popular franchises such as Aliens and Predator, Contra: Operation Galuga offers an array of mutant enemies and thrilling action. The game's story might be an overcomplicated mix, but it's the adrenaline-fueled action and nostalgic boss fights that make it a must-play for fans of the series.

The release of Contra: Operation Galuga marks a significant milestone for Konami, reimagining the classic game for a new generation while preserving its quintessential essence. However, fans might miss the unique maze-like shooting gallery levels from the original version. Regardless, this latest remake is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Contra series and its capacity to adapt and evolve over time.
