An Incredibly Detailed Copy of Bloodborne in Minecraft

A team of modders is doing something incredible, block-by-block.

A modder who happens to be a dedicated Bloodborne fan is recreating the dark RPG block-by-block in Minecraft. When creator Potomy was playing Bloodborne, he had the idea of flying around and checking out the views. That wasn't possible, so the modder decided to recreate Bloodborne in Minecraft himself.

Potomy and his team of nine creators (they have animators, modelers, programmers, and a composer) are creating something incredible. We've seen a lot of outstanding Minecraft builds but this one finds a way to recreate the original spirit without compromises.

The original idea was to explore Yharnam and its areas but a year after, the modder has a big team and even a Patreon page that allows the creator to pay skilled artists to rebuild the game's locations.

"I remember right at the very start, I started to model these structure objects – once I started to add them into Java, I was like: Man, this looks so good! It all really felt like it was coming together right from the very beginning, which was a great motivator," Potomy told GamesRadar. "In Minecraft Java Edition, I can't quite model things as big as I'd like because there's a size limit of 3x3 blocks. This means you can't build or model over that, so if I wanted to model an entire structure, I can do that in, say, Blender really easily – but when it comes to blocks, I can't. I need to do it piece-by-piece, like Lego. And because it's a texture pack, it can feel really limiting. But I find it really exciting at the same time."

The excitement hit when the team finished the city of Yharnam in Minecraft, block-by-block, but they still want to add several structures and tweak some areas. Next, the team wants to work on creatures from Bloodborne and add animations to make them feel right.

"We're going to be adding a lot more animations to the creatures. Currently, there's, like, five animations per model, but we're going to increase that to like 20, or maybe 30. This will add more randomness to their actions and make them feel more alive. We're also going to make their behaviors more intelligent, so that players will have a much harder time fighting them," said the creator.

The team will keep going as long as the community backs them up. When the project is finished, the modders are planning to release everything for free.
