Game Developer Antonio Freyre noticed a weird level editor on Steam that looks exactly like Epic Games' iconic game engine.
It's not every day that we see someone copying an existing software and trying to make a quick buck using someone else's work. Thanks to Antonio Freyre, a Game Developer working on a stealth game UNDETECTED, one such case has been recently noticed by the 3D art community and laughed at on Twitter.
Antonio stumbled upon WorldMaker, an Unreal Engine 5-powered level editor that enables you to create photorealistic 3D worlds using simple drag-and-drop controls. Sounds great, if not for one thing, the app looks exactly like the engine it was developed with, uses UE Marketplace-bought assets, has the same controls, and, as Antonio noted, even has the same UI.
But wait, there's more. According to one more screenshot shared by Antonio, Crafty Development Team, the developer of WorldMaker, claimed that UE Marketplace assets featured in the app can be used even for commercial projects, completely disregarding the original creators of the assets, basing this on the fact that these assets had been bought in the first place. Here's the screenshot itself:
