As any gamer knows, there's nothing quite like a good dungeon crawler. The thrill of exploring ancient ruins and abandoned laboratories, cunning and dangerous foes waiting around every corner, priceless loot and powerful weapons for you to collect – what can be better?
However, no matter what facility you choose to traverse and conquer, one thing all dungeon crawlers have in common is that there's usually a big mess left over afterward, all thanks to the overabundance of life juice your enemies tend to spill all over the floor after the unfortunate meeting with your character. Strangely enough, upon revisiting the cleared dungeon in many games, the mess magically disappears, leaving an intriguing question: who takes care of the clean-up?
A team of three developers from South America has recently found itself pondering the same question, imagining a game where you play not as an adventurer but rather as someone who has to clean the mess they leave behind. Meet Goblin Cleanup Game, an upcoming Unity-powered title that tasks you to rearrange dungeons and clear the blood-stained floors before the next set of adventurers arrives to start the cycle anew.
Instead of a mop, however, you'll need to use cute and disposable slimes capable of absorbing blood until they themselves meet their maker. Once the slime fulfills its purpose and is fully filled with cardio ketchup, you'll need to get rid of it by feeding it to a Dark Souls-like mimic, eagerly awaiting its next feast. Be careful, though, for much like original mimic chests, their Goblin Cleanup Game versions are also omnivorous and would gladly munch on an unwary cleaner.
At the moment, the game seems to be at its earlier stages of development, with the team refining its basic features and adding new ones on an almost daily basis. Over on Twitter, the devs regularly share behind-the-scenes demos showcasing the development process behind the title and previewing the newly added mechanics. Attached below are some of the demos shared by the team:
