App Annie: 14.3B Games Downloaded in Q3

The number includes 3.6B hypercasual games.

Consumers downloaded 14.3 billion games in the third quarter, according to the latest report from mobile data and analytics provider App Annie. The number includes 3.6 billion hypercasual games. The report also shares a look at some of the top titles in terms of downloads, consumer spending, and active users.

Lexi Sydow, head of insights at App Annie, noted that the report means hypercasual games aren’t necessarily going away soon – it appears users are more than happy to relax a minute or two with such games.

App Annie revealed mobile games are expected to surpass $120 billion in spending in 2021, growing 20% over $100 billion in 2020, based on an analysis of the first nine months of the year.

"We’re still on track to see over $120 billion in consumer spend on mobile games," the company said. "That figure includes iOS and Google Play, as well as third-party Android stores in China. We’ve had a really strong year for mobile gaming in particular."
