Fortiche pays close attention to detail, even if viewers will hardly notice them.
Arcane still keeps us excited even after its ending, and the more we learn, the more we appreciate the hard work Fortiche did to make the series look as good as it does.
In a new video, the studio showed the work on the backgrounds for Season 2, revealing that the team first creates a 3D set and then adds textures to it via matte painting, projecting paint onto 3D assets.
The combination of traditional art and 3D makes the visuals what we are used to calling Arcane style by now. The artists try to freehand the lines and make them a little shaky to get this hand-drawn feel.
The brushes they use are close to those used in traditional painting, that's why the visuals look so painterly. Then, the creators soften some parts but bring out those that the characters will interact with, adding enough detail to match the 3D characters.
"We work on shots as if they're beautiful paintings we can be proud of in the end," shared one of the artists.
