Artist Shows 3D Creature Models Created for South of Midnight
Take a closer look at the characters from the Compulsion Games' action-adventure.
Francesco Baldini, Lead Character Artist on South of Midnight, a third-person action-adventure by Compulsion Games and Xbox Game Studios, showcased the team's work on the creatures featured in the game's world and marked the contribution of talented artists and teams who worked on the characters.
The creator supervised the creation of Haints, creatures, monsters, and NPCs, engaging in guiding and supporting the outsourced Character Art team. More specifically, the role included reviewing the work, providing artistic and technical feedback, helping maintain consistency, and making sure each asset was aligned with the established visual direction.
The artist explained that the showcased assets were mainly created by the outsourcing team, but he also provided hands-on support and occasional polish when needed, especially in texturing.
"Supervising these characters was a particularly rewarding part of the project, as each creature had to fit within the handcrafted, stop-motion-inspired world of South of Midnight, while also supporting gameplay readability, narrative tone, and the unique visual identity of the game," Francesco Baldini shares.
