Assassin's Creed Valhalla Earned Record $1 Billion

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has sold 70% more copies than the previous title in the series becoming the first game in the franchise to earn more than $1 billion.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla became the first game in the franchise that earned over $1 billion in "consumer revenue". Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot shared the news on Thursday saying that the title hit the milestone in December 2021.

Although Ubisoft didn't mention how many copies of Assassin's Creed Valhalla were sold or how much revenue the game has brought by February 2022, the developers noted that Valhalla surpassed the previous game in the series – Assassin's Creed Odyssey – by sales (by 70%) as well as by players' engagement (by 30%). The company also shared that microtransactions and DLCs in Assassin's Creed Valhalla have brought an 80% increase in earnings compared to Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla was originally launched in late 2020 and since then it has been a massive success in Assassin's Creed saga, being the series' best-supported game regarding its post-launch content. The initial season pass of the game included Ireland and Paris expansions with new storylines set and extensive new maps. The game has also been regularly updated with free additions including seasonal festivals and challenge-based game modes.

The developers also continued post-launch support after a year since the release starting with the free Odyssey and Valhalla crossover DLC. Currently, the new Dawn of Ragnarök expansion with 40-hour gameplay which follows the events from Norse mythology end of days is on the way, being released on March 10. The game will also keep getting further free updates in 2022 including another new mode for the game.

Valhalla's new patch 1.5 will be released on February 22, however, the developers didn't provide any details on the update yet. Besides, from February 24 to February 28, the players will be able to participate in the Free Weekend event getting the opportunity to try out the game for free.
