Autodesk Launched Bifrost For Maya 2.11

This release introduces an experimental modular rigging framework for procedural character rigs and cloud-based simulation submission.

Available for Maya 2023, 2024, and 2025, Bifrost 2.11 is a major release, bringing plenty of new capabilities, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

With some nodes introduced in the Maya 2025.1 release, there's a new experimental modular rigging framework that lets you combine different modules to build procedural rigs. You can also now convert strands to skeletons, as well as points to skeletons and vice versa, and convert Bifrost skeletons to USD skeletons for export.

Watch the video at the top of the page to see how it's used to create both biped and creature skeletons, including a centipede-style rig, and try the example modules included with the release.

A separate new plug-in called Flow Wedging allows you to submit a simulation with variations of a parameter ("wedges") to the cloud, freeing up your computer's resources to work on other things while you wait for the results. Once the results are ready, you can easily load the generated caches for comparison.

Please note that Flow Wedging is currently a technology preview, so some features may be missing, and workflows could change in the future. It requires a single-user license, and cloud service usage is limited to 250 hours per user per month during the preview period.

Bifrost

Bifrost 2.11 introduces new nodes for texture sampling, including one that returns the RGBA color of an image interpolated at the UV coordinates of a geometry, with support for UDIMs and UV tiles. Data browsers offer more in-depth information about the values passing through a connection compared to watchpoints. They can even display the individual property values of objects within an array.
