Avowed Release Delay Was Not Because of Game Issues, Says Phil Spencer

Pre-orders are now available, and the Premium Edition will grant five days of early access.

When the highly-anticipated fantasy RPG Avowed was pushed back from its original November launch, it was said to be a strategic move to avoid a crowded release period for the Xbox Game Pass. However, this explanation was not that reliable in the eyes of some players, who believe the developers are taking extra time to fix the game’s controversial melee combat. Now, Xbox’s head, Phil Spencer, has once again declared that the delay wasn’t related to the game itself.

When talking with Stephen Totilo of Game File, Spencer said when the company has a few titles to be released around that time, it makes sense to move Avowed to a later date. This decision has been made after discussions with Matt Booty, head of Xbox Studios, and the Game Pass team.

“We can afford it when we have the Diablo expansion, then Black Ops, then Indy [and the Great Circle]. We didn’t move it because Obsidian needed the time. They’ll use the time.” (Thanks, Insider Gaming)

With the new release date of February 18 approaching, the game is now open for pre-order on all its release platforms, including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox app, Battle.net, and Steam, for $70. Its Premium Edition, priced at $90, will offer “up to 5 days early access, 2 Premium Skin Packs, and Access to Avowed Digital Artbook and Original Soundtrack.”
