Balatro Shall Never Fall into Gambling or Casino, the Dev's Will Says

"I hate the thought of Balatro becoming a true gambling game so much."

Balatro

Indie hit Balatro has been caught up in a whirlwind of success and challenges since its debut six months ago. Responding to ongoing controversies surrounding alleged gambling content in the game, LocalThunk, the developer behind Balatro, has taken a serious step — to emphasize their stance on the matter directly into their will.

Reacting to a statement that suggested "Balatro and its imitators are actually a psyop to get younger generations into casinos," LocalThunk highlighted the preventative measures they've implemented to ensure the game does not fall into real gambling:

Since its launch in February, the game quickly became a breakout success, earning $1 million in just eight hours and selling over a million copies within the first month. However, the ongoing controversy surrounding the game's imagery and content related to gambling has been a constant issue. This is believed to be the main reason why its age rating was abruptly revised from 3+ to 18+ in March.

Following the statement, LocalThunk shared a teaser post featuring a card on the brink of being flipped. This has led numerous fans to speculate that it might be hinting at a mobile version of the game. An official reveal from LocalThunk is expected soon.
