Baldur's Gate 3 Beats Starfield in Player Engagement on Steam in September

Based on the data provided by Circana, Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 achieved an impressive second place in player engagement on American Steam in September, surpassing Bethesda's Starfield, which landed in third place.

On October 18, Mat Piscatella, the Executive Director and Analyst from Circana, formerly known as the NPD Group, unveiled the video game sales data for September in the United States. In a revealing update, Piscatella shared that Starfield, developed by Bethesda, emerged as the top-selling game in the United States for September 2023.

Unfortunately, Baldur's Gate 3 did not appear in the report as the statistics do not encompass Larian Studios. However, shedding light on the subject, Piscatella shared separate insights into the player activity on Steam.

"In September, according to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, Baldur's Gate III ranked second in player engagement on Steam (monthly percentage of panel playing), behind only Counter-Strike 2. Starfield ranked third. On PS5, Baldur's Gate III ranked 20th in the same metric," wrote Mat on Twitter.

As per Circana's data, Baldur's Gate 3 secured an impressive second place on American Steam in September, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2. Remarkably, Baldur's Gate 3 managed to surpass Starfield in player engagement, despite the former being a month old while the latter had just been released. However, the PlayStation 5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 fared less prominently, ranking 20th on the PlayStation console in the same chart. All in all, despite the competition, Starfield demonstrated a strong start by securing the seventh position in the overall chart for 2023.

Some more news on Bethesda, Pete Hines, the Head of the Publishing division at the company, decided to leave the company and retire to spend his free time on his hobbies and take time to enjoy life. So did Will Shen, a quest designer behind Fallout and Starfield, who announced he'd be joining a new project and leaving the company behind.
