To no one's surprise, Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3, the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG, secured the coveted Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2023, triumphing over a lineup of notable contenders like Alan Wake 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and the Resident Evil 4 remake to claim the esteemed GOTY title.
Originally released in early August for PC and PlayStation 5, Baldur's Gate 3 has enjoyed immediate success and critical acclaim. Both critics and audiences have praised the RPG for its gameplay, narrative, and production quality. Prior to being crowned GOTY at The Game Awards, Baldur's Gate 3 had a triumphant run at this year's Golden Joystick Awards, where it earned a total of seven awards, including Best Studio and Game of the Year.
On top of becoming Game of the Year, BG3 also won this year's Players' Voice, Best Role Playing Game, Best Multiplayer Game, and Best Community Support awards, while Neil Newbon, the voice of Astarion, won the Best Performance nomination.
