Baldur's Gate 3 Hired a Movie-Style Intimacy Coordinator for Romantic Scenes
The project becomes one of the first games to use such services.
Baldur's Gate 3 has reportedly used the services of intimacy coordinators for its romantic scenes, which is one of the first cases in game development.
Intimacy coordinators are specialists who help plan scenes featuring simulated sex or other intimate physical contact in movies and TV. Their main goal is to make sure actors feel safe and comfortable and they don't have to do something they don't want to. For example, services of the same specialists were used during the production of Oppenheimer for certain scenes involving Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh. Basically, every movie with romantic scenes needs an intimacy coordinator these days.
It appears that intimacy coordinators found their place in the games industry, too. BBC reports that Baldur's Gate 3 "employed specially trained intimacy coordinators to make sure actors feel comfortable during romantic scenes."
"I never felt 'yuck' in a recording session at all," Jennifer English (Shadowheart) said. "And I've got quite a low 'yuck' threshold."
Larian believes Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the first games to use the services of intimacy coordinators.
Previously, Baldur's Gate 3 lead character artist Alena Dubrovina explained why there are no face sliders in the character creator and how players can express themselves with genital customization.
