Baldur's Gate 3 average number of concurrent and active players increased compared to the previous year, most likely due to the recently launched mod support.
Larian Studios Publishing Director Michael Douse said the company's sales chart looks like "the heartbeat of a happy little guy" and revealed the details on Baldur's Gate 3 performance. According to the executive, the average peak number of concurrent players is 3% higher than last year. Also, the average number of daily active users increased by 20% compared to the previous year. Apart from this, the average number of daily Steam Deck users skyrocketed by 61% over last year.
Douse supposes that the reason for this success is the mod support that the game recently got. Back in February, Michael Douse announced a "robust, cross-platform plan" for mod support, and in June, the closed alpha already started. And at the beginning of September, the game's Patch 7 introduced official modding support for all platforms.
Making mods seems to be a great way to boost the game's popularity, as it attracts new players and gives the fans an opportunity to bring creativity to their beloved game. For instance, the Producer and Director of the upcoming life sim inZOI announced that the game would feature mod support and encourage "artistic expression from players," as, according to the developer, bringing fans' creative visions to life "fosters a vibrant modding community" within the game.
Some of the Baldur's Gate 3 mods are very creative and provide a new look at the beloved game. For example, YouTuber Proxy Gate Tactician used several mods to play Baldur's Gate 3 from a first-person perspective. Another game's mod removes turn-based combat.
