Today, let's check out a newly shared clip from a work-in-progress project, showing the character first summoning a magical, crystal-blue violin and then using the sword to strike it. The musical notes that burst from the instrument aren't just for show — they actually inflict damage on the enemies, causing them to bleed out.
This footage is from Swordcery, an upcoming rogue-like, melee-based action RPG about magic, steel, and swordplay. The game’s backdrop is a world under siege — a colossal sword, spewing smaller blades, has pierced the Earth. As hero Colt, your mission is to wield these fallen blades and combat this corruption.
Swordcery
The game’s title, Swordcery, means the “unique ability” from each weapon that you discover along your adventure. These aren't your average blades. Here are what you can do with these special abilities: "hurling your sword out in boomerang-like fashion, thundering down as a bolt of lightning, opening up hellfire fissures, or summoning a ring of protective icy swordflakes!" If you are curious about how many types of swords are in the game right now, according to the developer, they currently have 33 different swords to be collected and upgraded, and probably more! As an action roguelike, you can anticipate new swords, relics, upgrades, and procedurally generated dungeons with each playthrough. Therefore, every game offers a new experience.
If the stunning animation and visual effects in the game have caught your eye, credit goes to the developer Temple Door Games, an indie studio founded by two former God of War animators. Let's explore more about the game following other footage they recently shared:
The game is set to be "coming soon," and you can already add it to your wishlist on Steam if you would like to give it a try. We recommend you follow the developer on Twitter to be informed of its future updates.
