Based on the book by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot is a DreamWorks animated film about a robot named Roz who gets shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted island and bonds with local animals to survive and adapt to the new environment. Taking visual inspiration from Disney classic animated movies and the works of Hayao Miyazaki, the film has achieved significant box office success and is currently on track to join the list of the top-grossing films of the year.
But it's always interesting to see what the production looks like behind the scenes, right? In the video above, DreamWorks Animation's Maarten Lemmens demonstrated one of the film's final shots along with his animation, including the blockout pass to plan the staging, action, and camera movements.
Another DreamWorks Animator, Nideep Varghese, joined him by providing another comparison of the animation pass to the final look:
